Pickerel
Area
The
Pickerel area is a premier vacation destination, located in the southwest
corner of Forest County. It offers vacationers opportunities almost year
around. The Pickerel and Crane Lake are the crown jewels of this area.
Pickerel Lake is a shallow lake (14 feet maximum depth) offering opportunities
for canoeing, paddle and pontoon boats and, of course, fishing. One may
just want to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Crane Lake
is deeper and smaller lake (26 feet Maximum depth), offering many of he
same opportunities.
The region has many fine restaurants, resorts,
bars and gas facilities. There is and excellent golf course in the area.
This region is home to one of the largest snowmobile clubs in Wisconsin.
The Tombstone-Pickerel snowmobile club is one of the largest in Wisconsin
it hosts a fish fry in the fall and
a sweetheart dance near Valentine's Day. In the summer this is a snow
club picnic and dance in mid-July. All activities are in the Clubhouse
on Highway DD. Autumn Colorama activities abound with many resorts offering
weekend getaway packages at this time of the year.
